In children with pectus carinatum, also known as pigeon chest or keel chest, the sternum and adjacent rib cartilage protrude further forward than usual. The EMO pectus carinatum brace for children has been developed to apply targeted pressure to the protruding part of the chest and gradually influence the shape of the chest wall during growth.
The brace applies controlled corrective pressure to the protruding part of the chest. At the back, the frame provides counter-pressure and stability. Because the chest wall of children and adolescents can still be relatively flexible during growth, a pectus carinatum brace can be used as part of the conservative treatment of pectus carinatum.
The children’s version is suitable for a chest circumference of 60 to 90 cm. The adjustable metal frame can be adapted to the shape of the chest and the required corrective pressure. The padded contact surfaces help distribute pressure across the chest and prevent the metal frame from coming into direct contact with the body.
Please note: the brace should not be worn during sports in which physical contact or collisions may occur, due to the aluminium components of the frame. In case of a severe cold, shortness of breath or other breathing problems, it is recommended to temporarily discontinue use and, if necessary, consult the treating specialist.
