The EMO pectus carinatum brace is designed for people with pectus carinatum, also known as pigeon chest. With this chest wall deformity, the breastbone and adjacent costal cartilage protrude further forward than usual. The brace applies targeted corrective pressure to the protruding part of the chest while providing counterpressure and stability at the back.
This version is suitable for a chest circumference of 90 to 115 cm and can therefore, depending on body build, be used by larger adolescents, young adults and adults. The sturdy metal frame is adjustable, allowing the fit and corrective pressure to be gradually adjusted. The contact surfaces are padded to help distribute pressure across the chest.
A pectus carinatum brace is used as part of the conservative treatment of pectus carinatum. Particularly in adolescents and young adults, the chest wall may still be sufficiently flexible to respond to prolonged, controlled pressure. In adults, the chest wall is generally more rigid and the degree of correction may vary more.
