Knee bandage for osteoarthritis / worn knee

Man builds his / her 25th year of life physically, then the victory called ‘decay’ has begun. People from an average of their 25 th year of life begin to develop arthritis in their joints. One joint worse than the other. So you can also suffer / pain in certain joints. A common joint in which osteoarthritis can occur is the knee joint. This can cause the knee to swell with moisture, become red and warm, and cause a constant nagging pain (during load; walking, climbing stairs, etc.). With an elastic knee bandage / knee support you can support the knee which will make it less painful and give less swelling / moisture. During one of our consultation hours, you can also get special sports knee bandages / knee supports for this, which in addition to support also give a correction of the knee during exercise.

Knee bandage for patello femoral pain

A patello femoral pain complaint is a pain that arises between the patella (kneecap) and the femur (thigh). This is a particularly common and common complaint / diagnosis among growing girls. Because the skeleton and the ‘soft’ structures grow at different rates, an imbalance in the patella of the kneecap can arise. A knee bandage (for sports) with an omega pad like the Genutrain P3 or the T-Strap of the Q-Brace provide good support for the kneecap and pain relief from the pain / complaints. Patellofemoral pain can also develop in adults. Osteoarthritis, rheumatism or trauma can irritate the cartilage at the back of the kneecap, resulting in the same complaints to the knee. The Genutrain P3 or Q-Brace can also be used for these indications against these specific pain complaints.

Order knee bandages for sports, any indication and situation?

Not every knee sports bandage is the same and not every knee bandage has the same function. For example, there are many different knee bandages from different suppliers. A small selection of pathologies to the knee:

  • Instability
  • Cruciate ligament rupture
  • Distortions
  • Arthrosis / wear
  • Patellofemoral pain complaints
  • Runners knee
  • Jumpers knee

For each indication there is again a knee bandage that is specifically made for this. On each product page of our knee bandages you can find out which indications the knee bandages are suitable for. In addition, it is very easy to determine the correct support class thanks to our support class pointer. Find out which support class is right for you here.

Knee bandage during   sport

If you have (had) an injury, a knee bandage / knee support can be used as a preventive aid for a recurrence. For this, you only wear the knee bandage during the sport activity and not during the rest of your daily life. During sports, a sports knee bandage can provide support, prevent moisture in the knee and the proprioception of special silicone pads provides a massaging and pain-relieving effect on the knee / knee joint.

Some sports in which knee bandages are often used for support or prevention are:

  • Volley-ball
  • Korfball
  • Football
  • Tennis
  • golf
  • Hockey
  • Rugby
  • Running
  • Basketball
  • To ski

Knee bandage during winter sports

About 20% of winter athletes sustain a sports injury, usually this knee injury. Of these knee injuries, inner tubes (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament ruptures (ACL) are the most common. Knee injuries in skiers are much more common compared to injuries in snowboarders. There are various causes, but distortions, not breaking loose from ski bindings and poor preparation for winter sports are common and heard causes. In terms of numbers, knee injuries among athletes remain fairly constant, but in proportion to the number of winter sports injuries, knee injuries are seen to increase more and more. An elastic knee bandage can make your knee less painful and tired. However, a rigid knee brace can also contribute greatly to the prevention of a new injury and prevent certain directions of movement. Let yourself be advised for free by a physio from ProBrace.

Knee bandage and flabby muscles: fable or fact?

Some people are afraid that wearing a knee bandage will make the muscles ‘weak’. Fortunately, this is a myth. A knee bandage from ProBrace is offered as an aid, so you should wear a knee bandage when you need this help. The knee bandage can provide pain relief and support for pain, peak loads (sports, etc.) or long-term loads (long walking / standing, etc.). The muscles around the knee are always stimulated by daily activities. When you have pain in your knee and can move less because of this, the muscle loss will be many times greater. A knee bandage is therefore ideal to wear when you experience instability or uncertainty in or around your knee.

Elastic knee bandage or rigid knee brace?

Roughly knee bandages & braces can be divided into three categories.

  • Rigid knee braces
  • Elastic knee bandages
  • Knee bandages

Rigid knee braces have a sturdy frame, which is often made of aluminum or carbon. In addition, these knee braces are always equipped with 1 or 2 hinges to ensure normal freedom of movement of the knee. Rigid braces are only used for the most serious injuries and / or loads. For example, after a conservative or operative treatment of a cruciate ligament rupture. A good example of a rigid knee brace is the SecuTec Genu from Bauerfeind.

Elastic knee bandages are, as the name suggests, made of an elastic material. In addition, they are usually equipped with silicone pad (s) and a reinforcement in the form of a (spiral) rib. Elastic knee bandages can also be performed with a hinge, but this hinge does not form a rigid connection with the other hinge, as is the case with a rigid knee brace. Elastic knee bandages are sometimes available in a ‘wrap’ model with Velcro fastening, but usually these elastic knee bandages are closed in circles and you can put them on like a stocking. The Genutrain of Bauerfeind is an example of a very successful inset elastic knee bandage.

Knee bandages are the entry-level model under knee bandages and braces. Knee bandages have no pads, ribs or hinges. These can be used to keep the knee warm (thermal effect) and can provide light support. A good example of an elastic knee bandage is the Genu Action by Thuasne.
