We speak of a fracture when a bone is broken. The severity of the fracture can range from a single fracture to crushing. In all cases there will be swelling and you will be severely hindered in daily functioning. With a wrist fracture, fracture of the ulna, the radial bone or both bones in the wrist region is present. Sometimes it is only a tear in the bone, but often there is displacement of the loose bone pieces. When damage to the bone has occurred, there is always injury to the so-called soft tissues, such as tendons, muscles and possibly vessels and nerves. In many cases, the fracture will be treated with a plaster cast. How many weeks you have to walk with the cast depends on the severity of the fracture. In general, this period will last between 2 to 6 weeks. If the fracture is not set, you wear a brace for 1 week, which you should generally wear for 3-6 weeks. You take this off during sleep and shower.
