The Basko Selection Wrist Rigid is a firm wrist brace with thumb support that supports both the wrist and the base of the thumb. The brace limits unwanted movement and helps relieve painful or overloaded structures while leaving the fingers free for everyday activities.
The Selection Wrist Rigid is used for conditions including osteoarthritis, arthritis, instability and certain injuries of the hand and wrist. Following a fracture, dislocation or subluxation, the orthosis may also be used on medical advice when restriction of movement and additional stability are required.
The orthosis not only supports the wrist but also stabilises the thumb saddle joint and thumb base joint (CMC-I). This makes this version particularly suitable when a regular wrist brace without thumb support does not provide enough support because the thumb is also affected by the symptoms.
On the palm side, the wrist orthosis features a pre-shaped reinforcement. A plastic stay is positioned on the back of the wrist. Together, these reinforcements limit unwanted flexion, extension and other wrist movements and help keep the hand in a stable position.
A firmer, non-elastic material is also used around the thumb. This supports the thumb saddle joint and the first carpometacarpal joint (CMC-I). This can be particularly helpful when gripping, pinching, lifting or twisting movements cause discomfort.
The fingers remain free, allowing the hand to continue to be used functionally during many everyday activities while the wrist and thumb are supported and relieved.
The Basko Selection Wrist Rigid is slipped over the hand like a glove. On the ulnar side, the little-finger side of the wrist, there is an adjustable lacing system. This allows the orthosis to be fitted accurately around the hand and wrist.
The thumb strap can also be adjusted separately. This allows the support around the thumb to be tailored to the anatomy of the hand and the desired level of stabilisation.
The orthosis consists of two elastic material layers with a firmer, shape-retaining material in between. This creates a combination of a close fit and sufficient rigidity to specifically restrict movement of the wrist and thumb.

Because the wrist is stabilised as well, this version is particularly suitable if you experience wrist pain or instability in addition to thumb complaints.
What is the difference between a wrist brace with thumb support and a regular wrist brace?+
A regular wrist brace mainly stabilises the wrist while leaving the thumb largely free. The Basko Selection Wrist Rigid also supports the base of the thumb. This makes the brace particularly suitable when movement of both the wrist and thumb causes discomfort or when both joints need additional stability.
