Thuasne XLR8 Air Walker – Firm immobilisation of the foot and ankle
Do you have a serious ankle or foot injury where movement needs to be restricted as much as possible for a period of time? The Thuasne XLR8 Walker is a sturdy pneumatic walker brace that surrounds the foot, ankle and lower leg with a rigid protective shell. This walking boot therefore provides a high level of stability and immobilisation for conditions such as severe ankle sprains, stable ankle fractures, foot fractures, tendon injuries or during recovery after surgery.
The rigid outer shell helps limit unwanted movement of the ankle and foot, while the rounded non-slip sole supports a more natural and comfortable rolling motion during walking. The closed front also helps protect the toes from the elements, unlike some more basic models.
Adjustable air chambers for a secure fit
The walker brace is fitted with two independent air chambers. These can be inflated separately, allowing the pressure around the lower leg and ankle to be adjusted precisely. This provides a secure fit and makes it possible to readjust the walker as swelling changes or decreases during recovery.
Rounded sole for more comfortable walking
Because the ankle can barely move inside a walker, the natural rolling motion of the foot is restricted. The rounded non-slip sole of the brace helps mimic this motion, allowing walking to remain possible. The adjustable toe guard can be positioned in three settings and helps provide additional protection for the toes.
What is the difference between the short and long Thuasne XLR8 Walker?
The Thuasne Walker brace is also available in a short version. The short walker mainly stabilises the foot and is more compact to wear. The long walker extends higher up the lower leg and therefore provides greater stability over a larger area. Choose the short version when the injury is mainly located around the foot. The long version is more suitable when the ankle also, or primarily, needs to be immobilised. In the case of a fracture, severe sprain or after surgery, always follow the advice of your doctor or healthcare professional.

Walk more comfortably with an EvenUp shoe lift
A walker has a thicker sole than a regular shoe. This can temporarily create a difference in leg length while walking, which may place extra strain on the knee, hip or lower back. With an EvenUp shoe lift under the shoe of the opposite leg, you can reduce this height difference and often walk more evenly.
