Wrist tendonitis: What you need to know

Wrist tendonitis occurs when the tendons become irritated due to overuse or repetitive movements. Common causes include prolonged computer use, frequent lifting, repetitive work or intensive sports. The symptoms can significantly limit your daily activities, but with the right approach, recovery is usually good.

Does wrist tendonitis go away on its own and how long does it take?

Mild wrist tendonitis can improve on its own, provided you take action in time. By resting the wrist and reducing movements that aggravate the symptoms, the irritated tendon tissue gets the opportunity to recover. If you continue to put the same strain on the wrist, however, the inflammation may worsen and can even become chronic. Early intervention is therefore important for a smooth recovery.

The duration of wrist tendonitis varies from person to person and depends on the underlying cause. On average, recovery takes several weeks to several months. With sufficient rest and support, you will often notice a clear improvement within 2 to 6 weeks. If the symptoms persist for longer than 6 to 8 weeks, additional guidance may be advisable, for example from a physiotherapist or with extra support such as a wrist brace.

How much rest is needed and what should you avoid?

Complete rest is usually not necessary for wrist tendonitis, but relative rest is important. This means adapting activities that put strain on the wrist, taking regular breaks and temporarily avoiding movements that cause pain. A period of 1 to 3 weeks of significant unloading is often required, followed by a gradual return to normal activities.

It is important to take pain signals seriously. Do not ignore persistent symptoms and avoid forceful movements, repetitive activities and sudden loading of the wrist. Pushing through the pain or continuing to exercise without sufficient support can also delay recovery and worsen the symptoms. By allowing enough rest and managing the strain on your wrist carefully, you improve the chances of a faster and more lasting recovery.

Causes and symptoms

Wrist tendonitis is often caused by a combination of factors. Common symptoms include:

  • Sharp pain in the wrist or forearm, especially during movement
  • Stiffness or swelling
  • Loss of strength or a dull, aching sensation
  • Symptoms that worsen with repetitive movements or strain

Which wrist brace is best for tendonitis?

A suitable wrist brace can provide valuable support during recovery.

A wrist brace:

  • Stabilises the joint
  • Limits movements that put strain on the wrist
  • Allows the irritated tendons to rest

For mild to moderate symptoms, a comfortable elastic wrist brace is often sufficient to provide support during everyday activities. If you experience more severe pain or notice that certain movements trigger the symptoms, a wrist brace with a splint can help keep the wrist temporarily in a resting position.

For wrist tendonitis, choose a wrist brace that provides sufficient support without unnecessarily restricting your freedom of movement. A good fit and the right level of support will help ensure that the brace remains comfortable during everyday use.

Brief explanation

With wrist tendonitis, it is important to temporarily reduce the amount of strain placed on the wrist. A brace with a splint helps keep the wrist at rest and prevents overuse, while a lighter brace is more suitable if you still want to remain active.

During the acute or painful phase, a higher level of stability is often preferred. As the symptoms improve, a lighter brace can help you gradually increase the load on the wrist again while reducing the risk of symptoms returning.

How should I package my product to return it? +

Use sturdy packaging, preferably the original shipping box in which you received your order. This minimizes the risk of damage and allows us to make someone else happy with the product. After it has been returned, the item must still be suitable to be offered as a new product.

Never use the product’s own packaging as the shipping box! If the product packaging becomes damaged, replacement costs may be charged.

What are the return conditions for returning a product? +

Return Conditions

  1. If reasonably possible, the product must be returned in its original condition and undamaged, in the most original and undamaged product packaging.
  2. It must be reasonably possible to resell your returned item without any additional handling.
  3. The product packaging may never be used as the shipping box. There must always be an extra outer shipping box around the product to prevent damage to the product and/or its packaging. You can use the shipping box we originally used to send the product to you.

How can I exchange my product for another product or size? +

Would you like to exchange the product for another size or a different product?
You can easily use our exchange service. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to our returns portal and indicate which product you would like to exchange.
  2. Next, select the size or the alternative product you would like to receive in exchange for your current product. For this step you will need your order number (including the letters ORD..) and your postal code. You can find these details on the packing slip.
  3. After you have indicated which product you would like to exchange and what you would like to receive in return, you can choose a return label from a carrier at a reduced rate.

Once you have purchased the return label, you will receive it by e-mail.

  • If you selected a printable return label, please print the label and attach it to the outside of the shipping box.
  • If you selected a non-printable return label, you do not need to print anything. Simply take your parcel to a parcel shop and have the QR code or barcode from the document in the e-mail scanned. The employee at the parcel shop will print the label for you and attach it to the box.

Important: always keep the drop-off receipt until your return has been fully processed. This serves as proof that you handed over the parcel.

Once we have received your return, we will process it as soon as possible (within a maximum of 5 working days). After processing your return, you will receive a new order confirmation containing the product you exchanged your original item for.

For the first exchange, no additional shipping costs will be charged. This order confirmation also confirms that your return has been successfully processed.

As soon as you receive this confirmation and the product is in stock (if a product is not in stock, it will be indicated with the word ā€œbackorderā€ on the product page), your order will be collected by the carrier the same day at 17:00 (5 PM).
