Sever’s disease

Sever’s disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis, is a common condition that mainly occurs in children and adolescents. It affects the growth plate of the heel bone (calcaneus), located in the back of the foot. Sever’s disease develops due to excessive stress on the growth plate, which leads to inflammation and pain.

The use of a brace

In the treatment of Sever’s disease, using a brace can help relieve pain. A brace, such as a heel cup or ankle brace, can reduce pressure on the heel and improve foot stability. It supports the heel bone and helps decrease the strain on the growth plate during physical activity.

A brace can also help limit the foot’s range of motion, preventing overloading and further inflammation. In addition, wearing a brace can contribute to better posture and foot biomechanics while walking, running or playing sports, helping to distribute the load more evenly.
